Irish Presentation Sisters online school wins Nokia Digital Media Award
The Irish Presentation Sisters online school “iScoil” has won the Silver Award at the prestigious Nokia Digital Media Awards in Dublin for the best use of digital media by a not for profit organisation.
“We feel very proud to have achieved this accolade. It is a tribute to the dedication and professionalism of the iScoil team and teachers. However, we are most proud of our students who are the pioneers of a new way of learning in Ireland,” said David Rose, iScoil’s director.
iScoil is Ireland’s first virtual school. It caters for up to 50 young people age 13 – 16 years who are out of mainstream education for a variety of reasons including medical conditions, mental health issues, school phobia, bullying, family circumstances and disadvantage.
“Our students may be out of school but they are still keen to learn and when offered the opportunity to do so through creative use of technology and good teaching methods, they really engage,” said David Rose.
iScoil is a new expression of Nano Nagle’s vision of education for those who are at risk of being left behind. It is an innovative and inclusive model of learning for 21st century. For further information, see www.iscoil.ie.
The Nokia Digital Media Awards celebrate and showcase excellence within the digital media sector in Ireland. Created in 2003 and now in their 10th year, the Awards offer a platform for the dynamic work taking place across the broad spectrum of digital media.
